Insyde Software Launches PC Crisis Recovery Technology
InsydeC2R™ Represents the First in a Series of Firmware based Problem Resolution Tools
COMPUTEX 2008, TAIPEI, TAIWAN JUNE 03, 2008 - Insyde Software, a leading provider of UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) based firmware, BIOS, and engineering services, today announced a new PC crisis recovery technology with the unveiling of InsydeC2R. Demonstrations and details surrounding InsydeC2R will be disclosed at the Computex trade show being held in Taipei, Taiwan this week from June 3rd to 7th, 2008.
Leveraging its expertise in system-level software, Insyde Software is delivering with InsydeC2R, a complete file and Operating System (OS) rescue solution to desktop and mobile PC makers. PC end users face a variety of problems and system errors caused by natural disasters, malicious activity, and user errors as well as possible hardware and operating system issues. While there are a variety of retail software applications available on the market to address some of these issues, InsydeC2R is unique in that it can function while the operating system is not available and, in certain cases, when there is a hard disk failure. InsydeC2R can perform a file-by-file backup when the OS can not boot, download drivers from a PC vendor's web site when Windows will not run, make a support call while the system is not functional, and recover the initial system disk image.
"Insyde Software is pleased to be launching this innovative technology," said Jeremy Wang, CEO of Insyde Software. "Our flagship product, InsydeH2O was the first BIOS product of its kind to leverage UEFI Framework technology and now Insyde continues its pioneering leadership with our InsydeC2R technology announcement."
InsydeC2R is comprised of four innovative "engine" modules that allow PC makers to add their own proprietary value directly as part of the InsydeC2R product. The engines include:
- Emergency File Save Engine: Quick file copy capability to backup important data files to removable storage devices without Windows™running, or to one of the many online storage services available. The company is currently testing InsydeC2R with ADrive?and Microsoft's Windows Live™SkyDrive online storage services.
- Network Transfer Engine: Downloads files during pre-boot (before OS loads).
- Help Access Engine: Pre-boot instant-on utility that provide access to a variety of help methods to assist in the emergency rescue process.
- Image Restore Engine: Easy-to-use graphical UI based utility that initiates and executes a fast restore of the initial system disk image or online backup image.
The product's naming follows the same convention as Insyde Software's flagship BIOS product called InsydeH2O. The "H2O" stands for "Hardware-to-Operating System" -- the entire set of firmware that exists between the hardware and the OS. Similarly, the InsydeC2R name represents the total "Crisis-to-Rescue" process or everything a user requires going from an emergency situation to file and system recovery, completed entirely in a pre-OS boot environment.
InsydeC2R will be sold through Insyde's PC OEM customers who will bundle the product as is, or customized with motherboards, desktops and notebook computers. Insyde currently has no plans to make the product available through retail or other channels. End-users considering a new PC purchase should check with a sales representative to ensure that their new computer includes InsydeC2R.
Product Demos and Additional Disclosure will be available at the Computex Show in Taiwan.
