Insyde Software Aids Intel in Setting up Framework Development Center in Taipei, Taiwan Intel Licenses InsydeH2O Compatibility Support Module (CSM) To Enable Complete Support for Mobile PC Makers Taipei, Taiwan, March 9, 2005 - Insyde Software, a leading provider of system software, BIOS, and engineering services, today announced that it has reached an agreement with Intel's Mobility Group to facilitate the establishment of Intel's Framework Development Center for Mobile PCs at the Taipei, Taiwan branch of Intel's subsidiary Intel Microelectronics Asia Ltd. The Center will provide Intel customers and BIOS developers with the resources to deploy the Intel® Platform Innovation Framework for EFI (code-named 'Tiano') on mobile platforms beginning with the "Napa" Platform this year. Under the agreement, Insyde Software, which is making an aggressive push to build up its own software engineering team to assist customers in this conversion to the Framework, will assist Intel to identify and train a team of BIOS engineers to staff the Development Center. Insyde Software has four years of experience training its own BIOS engineers on the Framework, and in January launched the "EFI Framework University" where it provides both classroom training and "hands on" exercises to enable BIOS engineers to more quickly become productive in the Framework environment. "We are very pleased that Intel's Mobility Group is sending this clear message that 2005 is the time for ODMs and OEMs to start shipping products using the Intel Platform Innovation Framework for EFI," said Jeremy Wang, Insyde Software's Chairman. "With the team that we are building at Insyde, and the support that we will receive from Intel's Mobile Development Center here in Taiwan we are confident we will be able to assist mobile PC makers as they make the shift to the Framework over the course of this year." As part of the arrangement to set up the Framework Development Center, Intel has licensed InsydeH2O Compatibility Support Module (CSM) from Insyde. While Intel developed the original version of the Framework, this did not include a Compatibility Support Module. The CSM is the portion of the complete software product that provides backwards compatibility enabling any current operating system (such as Windows® XP) or option ROM (such as a video BIOS) to function on a PC running the Framework. Insyde Software's Vice President of Engineering, Barry Chuang, who as part of the agreement moved from Insyde Software to Intel to join the Development Center's engineering team, said, "I am very pleased that in my new role I will continue to play a big part in this historic change in mobile PCs from using a legacy BIOS to the Framework. It is gratifying to see the commitment that Intel is making to enable this transition by staffing the Development Center with engineers here in Taipei to support the BIOS vendors and their ODM and OEM customers switch from BIOS to the Framework."
