Insyde Software Validates BIOS Replacement Technology With New Customers for InsydeH2O™

EFI Framework Based Solution Gains Acceptance on All Major Computing Platforms

INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., September 7, 2004 (Booth #540) - Insyde Software, a leading global provider of system software, BIOS, and engineering services, today announced that its InsydeH2O™ product has been selected by a number of leading PC ODMs and OEMs. The InsydeH2O "Hardware-2-Operating System" firmware product line which was formally launched at last year's Fall Intel Developer Forum (IDF) as a replacement of 20-year-old legacy BIOS technology has shipped or is being readied on Server, Desktop, Mobile and Embedded products from leading system makers.

"Insyde Software is pleased with the acceptance of InsydeH2O and the Intel Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) Framework from these industry leaders," said Jeremy Wang, Chairman of Insyde Software. "The thorough evaluation and implementation process completed by these companies validates the EFI framework architecture and our InsydeH2O product. It's now very clear that this is the optimal BIOS replacement technology now and for the long term."

The InsydeH2O product is currently being adopted by the following suppliers:

  • Quanta Computer, Inc., a leading Taiwan-based notebook ODM has adopted InsydeH2O for a next-generation notebook based on the latest Intel CPU and Chipset solutions.
  • NEC Infrontia of Japan is one of the first OEMs to take advantage of the EFI Framework and InsydeH2O for an "embedded appliance" application. Later this year, NEC Infrontia will ship a commercial ordering device using this technology.
  • Compal Electronics, Inc., a leading notebook ODM based in Taiwan is preparing products for 2005 that will capitalize on the InsydeH2O firmware solution.
  • Following up on its Media Center 610 PC that shipped last year with InsydeH2O, Gateway has begun shipping desktops based on the Intel® 915 chipset also running InsydeH2O.
  • Insyde Software is working with a leading desktop motherboard supplier and expects shipments of InsydeH2O on a percentage of the motherboard product line to begin in Q4 '04.
  • Insyde Software is working with an enterprise-class datacenter computing platform provider to deliver an Intel® Itanium® 2 processor-based server taking advantage of InsydeH2O and the EFI framework. Shipments are expected to begin in the first half of 2005.

"We've worked closely with Insyde Software to complete Framework development and go-to-market planning," said Michael Richmond, Manager of Intel's Platform Software team. "It's very rewarding to see the adoption of this technology by these respected companies."

These ODMs and OEMs have in part made InsydeH2O their firmware solution of choice due to the following benefits it provides:

  • Faster time to market for new hardware platforms using a standardized architecture and reusable software modules.
  • Common firmware development environment across complimentary product lines.
  • Written using "C" Language giving wider access to knowledgeable engineering resources.
  • Pre-boot EFI-based environment extends product differentiation opportunity.
  • Streamlined method for testing and qualifying PCs in manufacturing line.

In addition to this announcement at the IDF, Insyde Software will be exhibiting its latest InsydeH2O products on desktop, mobile and embedded platforms and will showcase its legacy BIOS and InsydeAxS?(Extended Mobile Access) based products. On Thursday, September 9th, Insyde Software's technical staff will present a session track entitled: "Using HTML in the Intel® Platform Innovation Framework for EFI."
