Insyde Software Readies Support for EFI - Extensible Firmware Interface
Company to present EFI case study and product demonstrations at Intel Developer Forum
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, San Jose, CA. September 9, 2002 - Insyde Software, a leading global provider of BIOS/firmware and consulting services, today announced its support and availability of EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) firmware and related design services. EFI is the industry's most advanced specification to date for defining a firmware interface for the next generation of computing systems.
In addition to this announcement, Insyde Software representatives will be presenting a technical case study presentation entitled: Enhancing Pre-Boot Environment with EFI Applications on the second day of the Intel Developer Forum on Tuesday, September 9, 2002 @ 3:00pm and will be demonstrating their EFI solutions at this event in their exhibit booth.
The current EFI specification outlines a set of interfaces and methods by which a computing platform's firmware and OS (operating system) will interact. EFI supports IA-32 and Intel® Itanium® -based platforms and is designed to complement existing computing interfaces and may work in conjunction with the system BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) of such devices.
"We are pleased that Insyde software has adopted the open EFI framework as an integral part of their IA-32 and Itanium-based platform product offerings," said Doug Fisher, co-director of core software engineering for Intel's Software and Solutions Group. "Intel is working with Insyde on future technology developments and we look forward to Insyde providing EFI solutions and services to the industry."
The benefits of EFI include but are not limited to:
- Reduces TTM (time-to-market) for platform manufacturers.
- Enhances the functionality of applications that run in the Pre-OS environment.
- Offers computer device makers the option of a "legacy free" environment.
- Simplifies the testing and qualification of firmware development.
"We recognize the value that EFI brings to our market and are pleased to be working with Intel and others to promote this evolutionary technology," said C.T. Wang, President of Insyde Software Taiwan. " Insyde Software's product line where applicable will support, leverage and enhance EFI to offer more flexible and complete firmware solutions to our OEM/ODM customers," added Wang.
