TUXIA blazes a new trail in Taiwan by forming a strategic alliance with Insyde Software Corp. TUXIA and Insyde are developing "Thin Client on a Chip" focused on the low-price Asian Information Appliance Market June 12, 2001 - TUXIA®, a manufacturer of embedded Linux software for Information Appliances and Thin Clients, today announced that it is forming an alliance with Insyde, to address the burgeoning Asian Information Appliance market. Both companies have already drawn up a Memorandum of Understanding. The cooperation includes the exchange of technical know-how, as well as joint marketing activities worldwide. Both companies will port the solution to the M-Systems DiskOnChip-Millennium product range. This will allow the development of a "Thin Client on a Chip" product, targeted at the low-price Information Appliance market in Asia. DiskOnChip-Millennium is one of M-Systems' DiskOnChip series products, which is suitable for Information Appliances such as Thin Clients, Settop Boxes, home gateways, and a myriad of other appliances. These consumer devices typically feature small a form- factor, require a robust operating system and low power consumption. The three companies are cooperating to integrate the XpressROM technology from Insyde and TASTE from TUXIA® directly in the DiskOnChip-Millennium, thereby eliminating the need for an additional BIOS chip. The first implementation will be based on the NSC Hydra Thin Client reference platform. By means of this new technology, hardware costs can be reduced effectively, thus making manufacturers more price competitive. Concerning the strategic alliance, Chu-Tian Wang, the President of Insyde says, "Insyde thinks a strategic alliance at this time can effectively combine both parties' competitive advantages to develop together the Asian Information Appliance market. The combination of TUXIA's® TASTE technology, and Insyde's extensive knowledge base in BIOS development, will lead to more cost effective integration and enable the Asian Information Appliance market for low cost devices.
