Westborough, MA, September 18, 2000 - Insyde Software, a leading developer and provider of system-level enabling software for Internet appliance and mobile computing device manufacturers, announced today that Ian Cross has joined the company as Vice President of Marketing. Cross will accelerate the company's dramatic growth and contribute his more than 20 years of senior level global management and marketing vision, leadership and strategic direction in the high tech industry to capitalize on Insyde Software's momentum in this fast-changing market.
"We are extremely pleased to have Ian Cross join our leadership team," said Jonathan Joseph, president of Insyde Software. "His marketing experience in the high tech industry and experience developing web strategies for communicating with our customers will be invaluable to our company's continued growth at the forefront of this marketplace."
Cross will lead Insyde Software's marketing strategies to develop innovative marketing programs to bring Insyde products to the rapidly growing Mobile computing, Internet appliance and Linux markets. He has held senior marketing and management positions at leading high tech organizations including Wang Global, a leading network services and solutions provider, CGI Systems and Yourdon, two very important software engineering firms. Most recently, Ian was the director of corporate marketing at Thomson & Thomson, the world leader in trademark, domain name and copyright research services.
"I am very excited to join an organization with such strong core technology and innovative Linux offerings for mobile and special-purpose PC makers," Cross said. "I am looking forward to the challenge of building the marketing team and an Internet strategy that will ally us with the leading Linux and mobile computing developments as well as supporting our strong alliances with key semiconductor vendors."
Insyde Software is a market leader in the Internet Appliance and Mobile computer market. With headquarters in Westborough, MA, and sales and engineering partners in Europe, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, it is able to cover and penetrate the market place at a global scale. The company has important business relationships with key Internet appliance and PC industry silicon manufacturers, including Intel, National Semiconductor, Transmeta, Hewlett-Packard, Nokia and Via among others. The company works closely with a wide range of operating system vendors for information appliances and PCs, including Windows CE, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, BeOS, Linux and QNX.
Insyde has established many strong relationships with customers and strategic partners, which are strengthened by the company's demonstrated commitment to providing direct engineering support. Cross will ramp up the marketing efforts and help direct the company's commitment to lead the mobile computing, wireless and Internet appliance market. Leading PC manufacturers, including Hewlett-Packard use Insyde's products. HP uses Insyde's system-level software for its Pavilion notebook PCs and thus is able to offer the benefits of AMD PowerNow technology and deliver it for the first time to small- and medium-sized business users and consumers.
The company has other important blue chip partners including National Semiconductor, providing XpressROM operating system- enabling software for National Semiconductor's Geode WebPAD devices and family of products. Insyde Software also partners with HomeDirector to provide the value-added software applications needed for its own branded line of WebPAD devices – handheld, web-enabled appliances designed to access the Internet and control home appliances.
According to many industry analysts, the PC will no longer dominate the computing environment, as new consumer electronics and other products are enhanced by the convergence of Internet, television and wireless technologies. It is estimated that the number of Internet appliance units shipped will increase from 11 million in 1999 to 89 million by 2004, according to IDC. Consumers are realizing that Internet appliances are simpler machines than PCs; it is a "family communications" tool.
