SystemSoft Announces Availability of MobilePro Software with Support for Intel's Three New Pentium Platform Chipsets

Editorial Summary:

  • Shipping To PC Vendors Today, MobilePRO Supports Intel's Mobile Module, 430TX PCIset and 380 Dock Set Products
  • Reduces Time-To-Market For Microsoft PC '97 Compliance
  • Offers Ultimate Flexibility in Desktop, Portable System Design

NATICK, Mass., March 10, 1997 - SystemSoft Corp.'s (NASDAQ: SYSF) industry-leading MobilePRO system level software suite now supports the new Intel Mobile Module, Intel 430TX PCIset and Intel 380 Dock set products announced today by Intel Corp. By incorporating SystemSoft's MobilePRO into their advanced desktop and portable designs, PC manufacturers can reduce their time-to-market for PC '97-compliant systems that offer the industry's highest degree of power management, Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) and Universal Serial Bus (USB) support and hot-docking capabilities.

SystemSoft's MobilePRO suite includes a core BIOS, value added BIOS layers for PCI, Plug and Play, USB and ACPI support, as well as easily customizable system control utilities that enable the most technically advanced designs. MobilePRO also includes a modular design and easily customizable source code that allows system engineers to implement OEM-specific features into the software and provides sophisticated design flexibility.

Systems shipping with MobilePRO will automatically meet the BIOS requirements for Microsoft's "Designed for Windows" logo program. This not only includes the current PC 95A requirements, but also PC '97 compliance, which is not required until July 1, 1997. MobilePRO also ensures PC compliance with industry specifications, APM 1.2, PCI 2.1, and Plug and Play BIOS and ISA 1.0a.

"SystemSoft again takes the lead in delivering enabling system-level solutions that support Intel's new Pentium platform chipsets and will help drive the adoption of key desktop technologies in portable PCs," said Jonathan Joseph, senior vice president of SystemSoft's Platform Product Group. "The SystemSoft and Intel engineering teams have worked closely to ensure the seamless integration of MobilePRO with Intel's 430TX PCIset. This will enable our mutual OEM customers to offer highly differentiated systems that combine high performance, the most advanced power management and the highest degree of design flexibility."

Intel's new platform building block products were conceived to ease design challenges and accelerate technology advances to desktop and mobile systems:

  • In portable PCs, the MobilePRO BIOS supports Intel's Mobile Module by automatically detecting changes to the CPU type, speed and cache sizing. This allows an OEM to update their Intel Mobile Module without requiring a BIOS update.
  • The MobilePRO BIOS takes advantage of the 430TX's Dynamic Power Management Architecture by utilizing all five power management modes available in the 430TX. Mobile PRO also compliments the 430TX's advanced video monitoring capabilities by allowing for more effective power management through back light control and the use of video standby mode. The MobilePRO BIOS also has ACPI firmware tables completed and validated for 430TX designs on ACPI 1.0 hardware compatibility tests (HCTs), ensuring ACPI support for Microsoft's Memphis operating system.
  • MobilePRO, the industry's first system BIOS to support hot docking, brings desktop-like functionality and ease-of-use to portable computers. This gives users access to network connections, higher performance video and multimedia capabilities, as well as greater storage capacity. MobilePRO also works seamlessly with 430MX/380 Dock Set to enable warm and hot docking to Pentium processor-based PCI notebook PCs running Windows 95. SystemSoft has numerous 430MX/380 Dock Set solutions shipping today and was the only BIOS vendor to demonstrate full hot docking with the 430TX and 380 Dock Set at Fall COMDEX 1996.

"SystemSoft's MobilePRO BIOS for the 430TX has been instrumental in the validation of Intel's Mobile Module," said Tony Sica, marketing manager, Mobile Module Operations at Intel. "SystemSoft's early and advanced support enabled the testing and demonstration of the Mobile Module technology in a complete notebook reference design."

In addition to Intel, the MobilePRO modular suite of BIOS and power management software system-level software supports the mobile PC industry's broadest range of advanced chipset solutions. MobilePRO is the industry's leading BIOS software, licensed by OEMs including Compaq, Digital Equipment, Gateway 2000, Hewlett-Packard and Packard Bell/NEC.
