SystemSoft Announces Support For Advanced Micro Devices' Elan™ SC400 Microprocessor

Leading Enabling Software Provider To Develop Integrated Software Suite For High-Performance Embedded Processor

NATICK, Mass. - Oct. 14, 1996 - SystemSoft Corp. (NASDAQ: SYSF), a leading provider of system-level software for the embedded systems market, today announced its support for Advanced Micro Devices' ElanSC400 microprocessor. The ElanSC400 is a highly integrated, low-voltage AMD 486SLE processor and the only single chip PC/AT-compatible-microcontroller designed specifically for palmtop and battery-powered PCs and "smart" cellular phones in the hand-held, mobile and embedded computing markets.

SystemSoft has developed an embedded version of its widely-adopted MobilePROTM software suite for the ElanSC400 that includes enabling technologies such as an integrated system BIOS, and advanced power management software, and delivers industry-leading PC Card support. This modular product suite delivers complete AT compatibility and critical power management capabilities in a reduced form factor. It will enable embedded device manufacturers to design highly differentiated hand-held and mobile computing platforms and reduce their time-to-market requirements.

MobilePRO for the ElanSC400 will be demonstrated at AMD's booth #34 at the Power'96 show in Santa Clara, California.

"SystemSoft's engineering expertise has proven instrumental in helping AMD in its drive to provide highly integrated, multi-function processors to our embedded systems customers," said Ed White, product manager, Advanced Micro Devices.

"The highly innovative AMD ElanSC400 architecture offers embedded systems designers the ability to quickly and cost-effectively bring advanced PC functionality to the embedded market," said Jonathan Joseph, senior vice president of SystemSoft's Platform Software Division. "Our support of ElanSC400 extends SystemSoft and AMD's successful partnership in the embedded systems arena. SystemSoft is poised to leverage new opportunities with the leading OEMs in this burgeoning market segment."

SystemSoft's MobilePRO suite for the ElanSC400 microprocessor will include a core BIOS, value added BIOS layers, power management software and easily customizable system control utilities. Also available for SC400 designs are SystemSoft's industry-leading PC Card software products, including CardSoft, CardWizard, and CardWorks. MobilePRO includes structured source code that streamlines customization engineers' processes for implementing OEM-specific features into the software.

The AMD ElanSC400 microcontroller is a highly integrated, PC/AT-compatible microcontroller. With its low-voltage Am486 CPU core and ultra-small form factor, the ElanSC400 microcontroller is highly optimized for mobile computing applications. Featuring PC/AT compatibility along with the power management features required for battery operation, the ElanSC400 micro-controller combines a 32-bit, low-voltage Am486 CPU with a complete set of system facilities commonly found in mobile embedded applications, eliminating the cost of additional components.

Availability

SystemSoft will demonstrate its MobilePRO solution running on a variety of hand-held and mobile devices at Fall COMDEX in Las Vegas. MobilePRO for the Elan SC400 will be available during the fourth quarter of 1996.
